Drone photo illustrating: Online vs in-person drone training

Online vs in-person drone training

How self-paced online courses, live virtual classes and in-person flight training compare on cost, flexibility and skill-building.

Online self-paced

Lowest cost and most flexible. Good for Part 107 knowledge test prep if you are disciplined. It does not build stick skills or confidence in the field.

Live virtual

Scheduled sessions with an instructor over video. Useful if you want to ask questions without travelling.

In-person classroom and flight field

Higher cost but includes hands-on hours with an instructor. Best for new pilots, teams and anyone moving into commercial work.

Hybrid and on-site

Many schools combine online theory with a flight day, or bring instructors to your site for team training.

How to choose

Pick online if you only need to pass the knowledge test; add in-person flight training if you are new to flying or need sector skills such as mapping, thermal or spraying.
